Show Evaluation

In this evaluation I am going to evaluate my pieces and then the show as a whole.
The first piece was group contemporary. I think we performed fairly well, I thought our spacing was off at some points but as a whole for our opening dance I thought we did well, I think the audience understood the story line and it was an interesting piece to open the show with. Going onto the Jazz trio from what I know me and Millie did (as she was dancing right next to me) we danced in unison and kept with each other through the whole piece, we knew what we was doing, although one part on the floor I bent my leg when I wasn’t supposed to but hopefully it wasn’t too obvious, overall I am pleased with our performance. After this was our acting piece, I thought this went very well, we all remembered our lines and where we were supposed to be, we all stayed in character throughout, I think our ending could be a lot stronger but am still pleased with how it went. After acting I had a very qu8ick change before ballet, I struggled with this as it was a full costume change without much time at all, once ready and on stage I thought that it wasn’t the best time we had performed that routine, especially for me it wasn’t the strongest time I feel as if my legs weren’t high enough (partly due to my tights not being on fully) and sometimes I’m not sure if I was constantly turned out. The audience so far have been quite quiet and not very responsive. Next was the street piece, for only fully learning the routine the day before I think I done fairly well, as a whole I think our group was a lot stronger than last year’s street group so am happy with our progress. Closing the 1st half was Candy Store, I think this was the best group piece in the whole show, it went very well, adrenaline kicked in on my speaking part at the beginning and I think I done that part well and had positive feedback from Kelly after for my speaking part. The dance was very energetic all the way through and we got the biggest reaction from the audience for it. In the second half my first dance was my ballet solo, I didn’t feel very confident in my costume and I’m not very confident with ballet in general, I don’t think I performed this to my best potential and was quite disappointed in myself. My ballet shoe also started coming off half way through which was very off putting. Next was my Dirty Diana solo this was a very quick change as I only had one dance in-between mine, once ready and onstage I relaxed a bit more, I thought my solo went ok I thought my turns could have been a lot better, one thing that I thought was alright was my facial expressions I thought I held good facial expressions throughout. Next was modern and I had a quick change in the wings this was very stressful, once ready and on modern went well I thought, it was a very chilled out dance which I thought we needed as it feels like it had been full on constantly. Commercial was next, I thought the beginning of this was a lot cleaner then the rest of the routine, I still think we all performed this piece well, I was a bit unsure on the timing towards the end but felt like I covered it fairly well.  After was tap, tap was lovely to perform, al6though I did pause at the wrong point but picked it right back up when I realised. Apart from that I thought we all looked very relaxed and enjoyed performing the tap piece. The final piece was the fan dance, again this was a very nice relaxed dance, it was enjoyable to perform and it seemed like the audience enjoyed it judging by the reaction we received when finished! The bows were very fun the audience were getting involved clapping along, it was an enjoyable ending.

Overall I thought this show case was a lot more successful then our last, I think we all showed ourselves off, showed our progression and I particularly enjoyed every minute of it. The audience gave positive feedback after the show which was lovely to hear And a massive confidence boost! I look forward to next year and more showcases to come.

Show Evaluation

Week 7

Monday 21st June
ABSENT

Tuesday 22nd June
Today we were to do a full run through, whilst running the contemporary dance my head collided with Millie’s and I ended up getting concussion and was taken to Q E II.

Wednesday 23rd June
ABSENT due to recovery.
Thursday 24th June

Today we done a full costume run through, this was very tiring as I still hadn’t completely recovered from Tuesdays situation, although I’m glad I got to see how fast my6 quick changes were etc.. I am feeling a lot more confident with the show now! After lunch we went over routines that I had to catch up on, mainly contemporary and street, after learning the bits I missed I am now able to go away and work on these and prepare for the show tomorrow.

Week 6

Monday 15th June
Today in ballet Kelly would run the dance but stop every time something went wrong or didn’t look right, this was helpful as it really made me think about what I was doing and to remember the points she had given me previously (turn out). In drama me T-J and Imogen had to do out assessment with an audience  (Anna, Kelly and Kerry) this went very very well, I am very pleased with our performance, we received very good feedback from all 3, saying it was very funny and enjoyable to watch. In MT  we ran through the rou6tine very slowly then full out including facial expressions, miming and energy. This is one of my favourite pieces in the show I really enjoy performing it. In modern after running it a couple of times coming across the same problem (not enough room) we decided to stagger the line which solved the problem. We ran it a couple more times, all went well just need to smile more!

Tuesday 16th June
This morning we done a full run through of the show, this was good as we got to see everyone’s routines and show our own getting feedback and improvements, an improvement for my solo was that I needed to change a move as it wasn’t ‘sexy’ enough. In the afternoon we all cleaned the street group without Emile, this was very handy as we could go at our own pace and go over bits we weren’t comfortable on, the piece looks a lot better cleaner and tighter now, I’m feeling a lot more confident with it now.

Wednesday 17th June
I was only in for a bit this morning, in  this time we finished the fan dance and ran it in heels a couple of times, I’m very relieved our final piece is finished, it looks very good and Zak sounds amazing! I am looking forward to performing it in the show.
Thursday 18th June

ABSENT

Week 5

Monday 1st June
This morning in ballet we went over our group routine and began cleaning sections, as I am in the middle I need to work on the routine in order to feel more confident when performing, Kelly pointed out that sometimes I lose my turn out so I need to keep an eye on that and work on it throughout the routine and my ballet in general. In drama Anna gave us back our edited script (to lengthen our piece out) after running these lines a couple of time with each other we then set the piece. Our drama piece is now all set all we need to do is learn our lines completely because we can then start to work on proper movement and childlike emotion within the piece. After drama we then ran our musical theatre piece a couple of time until our performance was at the level that Kelly wanted, I am still not very confident with my miming part at the beginning of the piece but I know when I’m  on stage I will be able to do it like Kelly wants me to. Throughout the piece Kelly wants us to mime bits of the song throughout, we must be nasty and quite ‘bitchy’ throughout to give the right vibe of our dance. After MT we ran through the fan dance briefly I hadn’t learnt this yet so I had to quickly learn it and join in, the choreography isn’t too hard, my favourite part is the beginning char section where we also have to sing, it’s a fun show girl beginning which is nice and different from any other dance in the show. In the afternoon we ran our tap number recapping and going through bits people weren’t sure on, both tap groups showed their routines, I really enjoyed the other groups routine, it was a lot more in your face then ours, it makes me realise I need to perform our routine a lot more facially and with my body language.

Tuesday 9th June
Today was mainly focussed on studio time, we were able to focus on finishing group pieces and solos. This morning I mainly focused on my solo, after Mary cut my music It was easier to choreograph as I knew what part of the songs were in my routine. With help from Millie and Imogen I was able to finally finish my solo!!! I am pleased with the choreography and very happy I now have time to really focus on cleaning my routine, there is a flick leap in my solo which I need to work on until I am confident with it, if I am not confident with it before the show then I will change it. I then went onto choreographing the jazz trio wit Millie and Tierney, this was a challenging task as there was a lot of gaps in our routine, there was a lift move where Tierney would stand on mine and Millie’s legs which we had to change as it looked messy and a bit tacky. It took us until the end of the day to finish our routine but we managed to do it and cut our music. We created a story line behind out trio which is me and Millie are hunting Tierney, I think we portrayed this very well, we now need to decide on costumes and need to begin cleaning this trio.
Wednesday 10th June
In the morning we done a run through of the show and received feedback from Mary and Kelly. They were very happy with our trio and said they really like the choreography but that It still needs to be cleaned, I’m glad they liked it that was a big confidence boost. In the afternoon we had street, we went over the routine broken down so everyone knew what they were doing, we then added formations, everyone was panicking a bit thinking we had loads left to do but after listening to the song turns out there isn’t much left to do which is a relief.

Thursday 11th June
This morning in modern both modern groups came together to put the routine together, this made it easier to learn formations and clean the dance. Kerry edited some arm sections and timings within the 2 groups. Now that we have come together this makes it easier to see the complete end result which is a relief that another routine is finished. In the afternoon we had street again as Emile wanted to clean and try to finish the piece. By the end of the lesson the piece was practically finished apart from a few transformations and formations, this makes me feel better as I can now go away and work on the bits I feel less confident with. There is a lot of energy needed for this dance in order for it to look like a good enjoyable performance.

Week 4

Monday 18th May
This morning as there wasn’t many people in we started with studio time working on our solos for the show. In this time I went through my routine a couple of times deciding where I wanted to cut my song, after making my mind up I continued with my choreography. I feel like I have added a lot of turns and pirouettes in my choreography which is a challenge for me, I would like to push myself in this routine and would like it to be a strong piece. After in drama T-J wasn’t in due to illness so me and Imogen ran through our lines learning them and trying to set our piece, we also discussed props and costumes but all these ideas are to be confirmed when T-J is well enough to come in and make decisions about our group piece with us.
Tuesday 19th May
This morning in ballet we had a very brief warmup then went straight into running the routine, we hadn’t run the routine in a while so it was good to recap before adding more on. In this lesson we managed to finish the routine and was able to run it a few times, we were also able to record the piece. Recording benefits me as it helps me to remember if I get stuck in a certain place and I can also watch myself and analyse myself and making corrections where I see fit. I enjoy this routine as the choreography isn’t too much but also creates an ‘eary feeling’, imp pleased we finished the routine today as we can now go over it and clean it in our other lessons leading up to the show. We then went on to continue choreographing and working on our solos, I was able to add on a bit more but sometimes feel like I get a choreography block and need to break to refresh my mind and be able to continue. We showed Mary and Kelly what we had of our solos today, they gave me positive feedback and also said now I have created a ‘sexy’ vibe to my solo I need to continue with that throughout, this feedback was very helpful as I know what path I am on now with my choreography.

Wednesday 20th May
Today we had commercial to start with, we warmed up, had a quick stretch then went straight in with running the dance, we broke down the dance a couple of times so everyone knew what they were doing and then ran what we knew again to confirm that everyone was at the same place. Kelly then finished the routine, the end was similar to the beginning just changed slightly. I am very happy another routine has been finished so now we can work on cleaning leading up to the show. We had a bit of time in the middle of the day to run our solos quickly recapping them and adding on, I wasn’t able to add on but worked on what I already had and began cleaning those bits. Hopefully with a longer studio session I will have my solo finished. In the afternoon we had street, during our lesson we learnt a new section in our street group piece, I feel like I am a bit behind as I’m not picking up the choreography as quickly as usual, im not sure why, I asked Emile to break down a few of the section, especially peanut butter and am feeling a bit more confident with them now.
Thursday 21st May

At the beginning of the day I had time to go over my solo and add on, I had a bit of block so asked Millie to help me, she was very helpful and got me out of my ‘stuck’ section, I am very close to finishing my routine, this makes me happy as I would like as much time as I can to clean my solo before the show as there are some difficult point in it that I would like to perform to my best ability. Today in contemporary we continued with our routine adding in small details and making sure everyone knew up to the same point as each other. I feel very comfortable in this dance, I like that there is a story line behind it and that everyone has their own parts, after half term we are to finish this routine and begin cleaning I before the show.

Week 3

Monday 11th May
This morning we had our ballet assessment, I thought my bad work went well with some muck ups but I corrected them so hopefully that is shown, in the centre work it started off well but got quite fast towards the end and I started struggling to keep up abit but overall I think it went fairly well. We then performed our ballet solos I felt mine went well I tried my best, I was abit nervous but hopefully that didn't show to much. We also had drama this morning I was given my role and sat with my drama group for the show and read through the script a couple of times. After lunch we sat our Healthy Dancer exam, I thought I was going to struggle with it much more then I did, I struggled with some questions and confused myself a bit but hopefully all went well. After the test paper we were given the chance to do solos in our spare time before next lesson, I have some good ideas for my solo and will work on executing them as well as I can. In modern we went over the show routine and added a bit more on.

Tuesday 12th May
For an hour and a half in the morning we were given studio time to work on our solos, after Mary and Kelly watched a provided us with feedback, I have got the first verse of my solo choreographed and a bit of the chorus but needs to be cleaned. We then went on to have commercial, we ran through the show routine a couple of times then Kelly began adding on. After lunch we were given more studio time for the rest of the afternoon, as Shannon wasn't in today we weren't able to continue with our duo so for the first half of studio time I worked on my solos again then during the second half of studio time myself, Millie and Tierney continued adding into our trio and progressed more with the choreography. Today was a good day with more progression on our show pieces.

Wednesday 13th May
This morning we had ballet, we didn't do any show work today just mainly focused on technique, this was the same in Jazz today mainly focussing on using the body and performing the choreography.

Thursday 14th May

In Tap this morning we ran through our show number throughout the lesson, we slowly recapped all the steps a couple of times making sure everyone knew what they were doing and to make sure we was in perfect unison, I feel like the start of the routine is the strongest part and that we should work more on other parts to bring everything to the same level of performance and technicality. In contemporary our routine was changed to one with more of a story line to go on, so far we have only done the begging of the routine but I am liking it so far. Once we learned some of the choreography we began to be put in formations and ran what we knew a couple of times in formation, so far it’s looking good and different from anything we have in the show already.
